ST. VINCENT SAFE ENVIRONMENT

OUR PRIORITIES

All children, young people, and vulnerable adults have the right to be safe and protected from harm.  The Diocese of Syracuse embraces this right and promotes that protection by taking steps to create safety in all environments. These steps include:

  • A comprehensive Child and Youth Protection Policy.  Click HERE to read more.

  • A Diocesan Code of Conduct.  Click HERE to read more.

  • Ongoing education and training on the prevention and detection of child sexual abuse

  • Criminal background checks

TRAINING: WHO IS IT FOR?

Completion of the initial 2.5 hour Safe Environment training session is required within 60 days of assumption of duties, employment, or volunteering per diocesan policy.  Attendance at a recertification training session and an updated background check is required every five (5) years.  This date is determined by an individual’s last date of training.

THE OFFICES OF SAFE ENVIRONMENT & VICTIM ASSISTANCE

The Office of Victim Assistance and the Office of Safe Environment are two distinct but closely related offices.  These offices are accountable for integrating the approved standards of the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People (USCCB, 2002) with our Catholic values and teachings, canon laws, and policies.
