Frequently Asked Questions regarding a Parish Council

Frequently Asked Questions regarding a Parish Council:

What is the purpose of a Parish Council? A Parish Council assists the paster in his leadership role of planning, organizing, initiating, promoting, coordination, and reviewing the evangelization, worship, and service activities within the parish.

How many people should be on a parish council? Parish Councils must have at least five councilors, but other than this minimum, there are no statutory or recommended numbers.

How often should a Parish Council meet? Parish Councils must hold at least four meetings a year.

Can any parishioner attend a Parish Council meeting? Yes, parishioners are invited to attend and also speak with Parish Council members at any time.

How are Parish Council members selected? The Church, as an ordered communion, needs a structure the provides for the sharing of responsibility through advisement, advocacy, and accomplishment. Individuals may be invited to attend a Parish Council meeting in order to determine if they will be a good fit to join.

We are regularly seeking new members who can offer fresh ideas for our parish! If you feel called to be a part of our Parish Council, or if you are invited to join, please prayerfully consider being a part of this important membership.
